interwebs

After quite a bit of finagling, the website is remade! Completely remade and moved, and it is better. One of the hold ups was this pesky little feature:

Trying to find an appropriate spot for the logo was tricky. I will be keeping updates here on the blog with the IAC label, but there will also be a section on the website with the grant work. Please check it out and let me know what you think!

And...the website was holding up the final edit of the movie. So that will be posted soon!

safety and america part 2

Was there a part 1? Yes, there was. Safety and America spent June at CAC in Cedar Lake and moved to HAC in July. So, CAC was part 1 and HAC is part 2. more pics in the links.

Safety and America opened at HAC last night! There was a good turnout and I got a lot of positive feedback about my work. Yay! Now I can almost relax because the hard part is over. (until I have to deinstall) And Giovanni showed up with an almost completed movie! I was a little nervous about watching it for the very first time with an audience, but it worked out just fine. I did not sound stupid or come off like a bitch, which were my two biggest concerns. I did blink. a lot. I mean honestly I had no idea that I blinked that much.

behind the scenes boring stuff

I know this blog was supposed to be showing lots of behind the scenes, work in progress stuff, but that's not always interesting. And usually not very photogenic either. Can things be photogenic? I don't know. This is really all I got:

I've been working on this mural painting class in Harvey. Week 1 was priming and beginning cartooning. Week 2 was more cartooning and transfers. This pic is at the end of Week 3. We finally started painting! And when I say "we" I don't mean me, this is all the kids. This is my first teaching experience and I'm having more fun than I expected. There's a 12 student limit to the class size, so naturally I have 16 kids. It's a little crowded.

Other art related things: I'm waiting on the official paperwork for the IAC grant. hmm..I didn't announce that here, but I got the grant! Yay, me! So exciting, but I don't have the actual grant money yet. And, let's face it, the money is really a key part of the grant. I've also been thinking a lot about the work I need to make for this grant and next year's show. And wondering how the work I want to make is going to align with the work I need to make. Could be tricky. And speaking of tricky, I need to figure out how (and by how, I mean where) I am going to paint 8' canvases. The garage was suggested. Which is full of crap. So full you can barely walk through it. So I've been thinking about cleaning out the garage. None of these things is very picture worthy, though.

Also, my website died. Or the site my website was on died. Which leaves me temporarily websiteless. So I've been working on that. Lots of typing and clicking. I may finally get around to creating inventory numbers for all my artwork. There may be a spreadsheet involved at some time. Just a warning. And I'm trying to organize the move of the  Safety and America show from CAC to HAC. The show at HAC opens Friday the 13th. I'm hoping that's lucky.
