Throwback Thursday
This is a pretty recent throwback. I chose this piece today because I reworked this view in paper today. I don't have any photos of it at this point, I should be able to share some later this week, in the studio.

This week I really dove back into painting. I'm working a lot smaller, so it's going quite a bit faster. I finished three paintings and started another...
Out of the studio, I managed to see several shows Melissa Washburn at the Towle Theatre and Lou Shields at Paul Henry's on Friday and They Pass Unseen in the World at SideCar on Saturday, which featured collaborative woodblock prints.

This week: the #overthemantel painting is done. A whole lotta yellow went onto future wishes. The title has been shortened because the road was edited out. It was future wishes, or the road less traveled. The road in question was a private road on private property that ran along side the county road. future wishes refers to the field of dandelions. What kid has not made a wish and blown those seeds everywhere? This is likely the last of the Adirondack paintings.
Also happening: more work on the two impending storm canvases and some linoleum carving for the #postcardswap. And I've already seen two of the postcards! This is like Christmas for me. Even though I am not getting these postcards, it is still really cool to see them online.
This was after the first day of cutting which was pretty awful and reminded me that I that I have a strong dislike for linoleum. Many thanks to Johnny Disco for suggesting I iron the lino to make it easier to carve. I am about half way done carving now and will have printing to show for next week.
Outside the studio, I went to Angel Hair for The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades opening featuring Lou Shields, Rick Therrio, and Sophia Rapata. This is the last week for my artwork to be featured at Uptown Evolution in Whiting and as part of South Shore Arts' Summer Sizzle. So if you are local to NWI, and haven't made it see those shows yet, time is running out. That also means I will have to find space for 15 pieces to come back into my already crowded studio, so if you find a piece you love, please give it a new home.

Most of this week was spent working on an idea which I thought might be brilliant . And it was not. Still potential there but this attempt was a failure, or as I like to call it learning what doesn't work. Because, really, if you learn something then it can't be a failure.
More painting on these two, but I am honestly not really feeling these pieces this week.
And more work here, which is finally starting to show. Layers on the upper half which don't show, but eliminated part of the foreground and have a clear thought on where this is going, finally.

In the studio, the blog, and the rest of my social media sort of took an unintended hiatus this month. I think perhaps I need to regroup. So let me catch you up.
future wishes is still hanging out over my mantel where it's getting a lot of thought. And I've identified some changes that need to be made. Look for a reappearance of this piece next week.
Some small #art365 pieces were worked on, with the idea that these may become larger pieces. Here are a few of them. The first two were based on some photos from my #adk trip. The second set of two were from the Indiana Dunes. And the last is the prairie. All are 4" x 6" gouache.
And a new piece begun, maybe titled another roadside attraction or something of the sort.
In other news... I was a juror for a show at Studio 659. I have work in Summer Sizzle which opened at Substation No 9 last week. There's a new Abstract show at Paul Henry's featuring Pearlie Taylor and Jason E. Jones, which I quite enjoyed. Work from Renditions Gallery just came home Friday, as sadly the owner is relocating. And last night was a closing for my friend Larry A Brechner at White Ripple. This coincided with the end of the I AMerican Show with a gallery talk by curator Sergio Gomez. Up next, I will be featured at Uptown Evolution in Whiting. And, finally, the #postcardswap is back! (Deadline to sign up is August 10th.) So things are still happening, I just haven't been very good about posting about them.

This week was spent on just one painting. And while I try to post artwork everyday, I always feel like it gets a little boring to keep looking at the same piece day after day. I mean for all of you on the interwebs. I'm not bored. Usually.
So this week, I put together a little clip of the current painting, future wishes, or the road less traveled.
See? it really did change. I am not quite happy with the mountain tops. I was and then wasn't and have to decide sort of which direction they are heading. So look for that change next week. And this should be knocked out next week and I can start on something else. Right after I order more stretcher bars, or possibly reclaim some more canvases. I am out of room. Studio Independence Sale ends today.

This week, I'm actually posting this recap on the usual Sunday. Last week, I started prepping on Saturday, and the internet went out in a storm, and when it came back up, I finished the post and published it, without realizing that I was a day ahead. I suppose that is better than a day behind.
I did finish two paintings this week. The small crashing through and the larger something about the current are both based on the Boquet River at Wadhams. A new canvas was stretched which will have another longer view of the Middle Road area which was featured in middle (of the) road.

The stretchers for the next piece, 38" x 64". If you think it looks like it belongs there, it's because it does. I bought those stretchers months ago thinking that I'd out a painting over the mantel. This is now stretched and steamed and ready to start tomorrow, after I get home from Hammond Library. The paintings which have been there for the last two months are returning home.

This week, I finished for now this is where the river turns. I reworked some of it today, after having looked at it for a couple of days. It's being set aside for a while. A smaller piece was started. Still untitled, but I am leaning towards crashing through. Both these paintings are of the Boquet River in upstate New York. These photos are very deceiving. The lower piece is tiny in comparison.
Also this week, got word that my grant application was accepted by the Indiana Arts Commission! I will be spending a week this fall in a papermaking residency at Hook Pottery Paper, and the work will be framed and shown at Towle Theater next spring. I'm going to need a good hashtag for this work. #grantwork? #papergrant? If you have a good idea, let me know.
Friday, I managed to hit 3rd Friday at Zhou B, including Diana Leviton Gondek's studio and Chris Winquist's work at 4ArtInc. Saturday I was gallery sitting at Studio 659.
