Throwback Thursday

I just brought back some america series pieces from a gallery and I was thinking to post one of those this week. But then I did some digging and on this date last year, I finished this piece: consideration. It came together quickly. I reflected at the time that I should paint angry more often. Except that would require me to be angry more often and I wasn't too keen on that part. The text in the piece states:

I am tired of considering every single thing.

This painting is currently at Merge Building.

in the studio

In the studio, the blog, and the rest of my social media sort of took an unintended hiatus this month. I think perhaps I need to regroup. So let me catch you up.

future wishes is still hanging out over my mantel where it's getting a lot of thought. And I've identified some changes that need to be made. Look for a reappearance of this piece next week.

future wishes, or the road less traveled

Some small #art365 pieces were worked on, with the idea that these may become larger pieces. Here are a few of them. The first two were based on some photos from my #adk trip. The second set of two were from the Indiana Dunes. And the last is the prairie. All are 4" x 6" gouache.

And a new piece begun, maybe titled another roadside attraction or something of the sort.

In other news... I was a juror for a show at Studio 659. I have work in Summer Sizzle which opened at Substation No 9 last week. There's a new Abstract show at Paul Henry's featuring Pearlie Taylor and Jason E. Jones, which I quite enjoyed. Work from Renditions Gallery just came home Friday, as sadly the owner is relocating. And last night was a closing for my friend Larry A Brechner at White Ripple. This coincided with the end of the I AMerican Show with a gallery talk by curator Sergio Gomez. Up next, I will be featured at Uptown Evolution in Whiting. And, finally, the #postcardswap is back! (Deadline to sign up is August 10th.) So things are still happening, I just haven't been very good about posting about them.

postcardswap #3

And we're back! A little late, but better late than never. This will be the third swap. Everyone and anyone is welcome to join.

Robin Maria Pedrero

What is it? The quick answer is you make a small postcard sized (approximately 4" x 6") piece of artwork and send it out into the world and have one sent to you, as well.

The rules: Or, maybe think of them as courtesies, or how this actually works.

Decide you want top sign up, and email me your full name and mailing address. Sign up by August 10, 2014.  Artwork must be postmarked by August 31, 2014.

Do not sign up if you are not going to send a piece of art out. Really. This will bring about tons of bad karma for you. And it really is sad for the person on the other end who sent something out and didn't get something in return. I do not like getting those emails and then have to track down who failed to follow through.

Megan Green

Make a piece of art! Any media, any theme, but it must be handmade, by you, for this event. Photography/digital work is fine as long as it's your work. A postcard from your last show is not okay. A piece of art you made five years ago is not okay. Again, about the size of a postcard. It does not have to be an actual postcard, just that size. This should be easy, and not costly, to mail. You can put it in an envelope, or not. But please think about how it will arrive to your assigned artist. You want this piece of work to represent you well. By all means load up the back of the card with all your contact information. The person you send your card to will not be the same person who sends you a card. You will be connecting with two different artists, and hopefully through the follow up blogs and social media, you will be able to connect to even more artists.

Michelle Pendergrass

Before you mail it out: take a pic and email it to me. Please put your name on the jpg file for me. When you email me that, also send a link to wherever you want me to direct people: your website, etsy, blog, facebook, etc. You can also post it to whatever social media you are on. Please use the hashtag #postcardswap. And if you can tag me, I'll reshare it. I will put together several blog posts following up with pictures of your art and links to your website (or wherever). I cannot post your artwork and links if you don't send them to me. That may seem kind of obvious, but half of the artists participating last time didn't bother, so please remember to do it!

Throwback Thursday

This week's throwback is the ascent. A year ago today I was working on some sketches of the shore based on a friend's vacation pics. This was a small sandy path to the top of a bluff overlooking the beach. The more obvious beach ones sold, but I always felt this was the most successful of the pieces from that small series.

For those of you waiting on the next #postcardswap, I'm getting around to it. Stay posted...

Throwback Thursday

This week's throwback is from late summer last year. It is one of a dozen paintings currently at Paul Henry's Art Gallery. This field is off Taft in Crown Point.

in the studio

This week was spent on just one painting. And while I try to post artwork everyday, I always feel like it gets a little boring to keep looking at the same piece day after day. I mean for all of you on the interwebs. I'm not bored. Usually.

So this week, I put together a little clip of the current painting, future wishes, or the road less traveled.

See? it really did change. I am not quite happy with the mountain tops. I was and then wasn't and have to decide sort of which direction they are heading. So look for that change next week. And this should be knocked out next week and I can start on something else. Right after I order more stretcher bars, or possibly reclaim some more canvases. I am out of room. Studio Independence Sale ends today.
